Few teams saw such a dramatic rollercoaster of a season than the Georgia offense, which started four quarterbacks, largely because of the opt out of Jamie Newman before the season.

On a Zoom press conference head of the Peach Bowl against Cincinnati, offensive coordinator Todd Monken reflected on the season as JT Daniels has settled into the role as starting quarterback following several impressive performances down the stretch.

About Newman’s opt out, Monken said it didn’t change what he had in mind for the offense.

What did change for the offense was Daniels’s arrival as starter for the Mississippi State game, where he threw for 401 yards, then had 139 yards against South Carolina, and 299 against Missouri. All told, Daniels had nine touchdowns and one interception.

“He’s going to study the film … and embraces the challenge of being in control,” Monken said. “He’s a rare individual in terms of learning the offense and studying the game.”

Monken added that very few people love the “process” and game as much as Daniels.

About his plans for 2021, Daniels said, “It’s not something I’ve honestly given much thought to,” and added he hasn’t been back to his home state of California since June.

As the Bulldogs get ready for the Peach Bowl against the Bearcats on Friday, Daniels said fans might be surprised with the talent of some of the younger players.

The game is set for noon on Friday on ESPN.
