Former Bulldogs playmaker Isaiah McKenzie has been turning heads in Denver ever since the Broncos drafted him in the fifth round this spring.

McKenzie declared for the NFL Draft following his junior season to cap off his electric career in Athens, and he will be sorely missed this season among the Bulldogs’ receiving corps and special teams.

However, the Bulldogs’ loss is the Broncos’ gain, so far. A few weeks ago, one Denver Post writer wrote that McKenzie could be the team’s most impressive rookie when he turned heads during the team’s OTAs. In fact, Denver have said it will use McKenzie in a variety of roles during his rookie season.

“Isaiah McKenzie is the early favorite to be the Broncos’ most impressive rookie,” Wolfe wrote. “The fifth-round pick has shown off his shifty moves, natural hands and unique playmaking ability in nearly every OTA practice so far. Monday, he returned a punt return down the right sideline for a touchdown and earned a congrats from cornerback Aqib Talib.”

Now, as the season inches closer — and McKenzie’s had time to make an impression upon Broncos’ teammates, he caught the eye of superstar Von Miller, too. The Broncos are a talented team, but they could be upgraded in one department. And Miller thinks McKenzie could fill that void immediately, per The Denver Channel.

“We have a lot of rookies that are going to help us win games,” Miller said. “[Punt returner/receiver] Isaiah [McKenzie] is going to be able to make a lot of great plays. It’s what we’ve been missing, a big-time return man. He’s dynamic. The rookies really fit into the weaknesses we had before. I feel really good about it.”

The Human Joystick seemed a step faster than everyone else during college, and we’ll see how his speed compares in the NFL. Still, Denver’s coaches and players have to feel good with the ball in McKenzie’s hands.

It will be interesting to see the impact he makes during his rookie season.
