WATCH: Colin Cowherd explains why he doesn't think Georgia will make College Football Playoff
When the first 2017 College Football Playoff rankings come out on Tuesday, the Georgia Bulldogs are almost guaranteed to be among the top four teams.
However, FOX Sports host Colin Cowherd doesn’t think the Bulldogs will be in the top four at the end of the season, when it really counts.
According to the segment below, Cowherd thinks a potential Alabama-Georgia SEC Championship Game would serve as a CFP eliminator, especially since it will be played on a neutral field:
1. Alabama
2. Ohio State
3. Clemson
4. Penn State@ColinCowherd predicts the #CFBPlayoff pic.twitter.com/eQDMIEWuRm— Herd w/Colin Cowherd (@TheHerd) October 30, 2017
“I don’t want to hear about Alabama-Georgia,” he said. “They play probably in the last game of the year on a neutral field. First of all, the SEC isn’t good enough this year to have two teams and it makes absolutely no sense to have Bama play Georgia on a neutral field and then have them play three weeks later on a neutral field.
“Penn State and Ohio State can play again because they haven’t played on a neutral field, and yeah, that matters.”
There are still four weeks left in the regular season to sort things out, but we’ll have to wait and see if Cowherd’s predictions are proven correct.
So let me get this straight…
Cowherd lists a heavy qualifier for why UGA shouldn’t get into the playoff, then goes on a rant about how there shouldn’t be any qualifiers.
But I will agree and I’ve said this to my buddy who is a huge ND supporter, The SECCG is the first week of the playoffs for Bama and UGA (provided they both make it there) as it should be for every conference.
I completely disagree. I think if Bama wins, UGA is out. If UGA wins, Bama is in at #4. Assuming both win out to that point. My reasoning is simple. It’s Alabama. They’re not going to leave them out. They would make them play again as 1 & 4 so they wouldn’t have an all SEC final. The end.
No reason in the world Bama should get in cause they’re “bama.” It’ll be one versus 2 and if they’re both undefeated they should still probably both get in
I agree that there “shouldn’t” be a way that happens, but that’s how it happens. OSU hasn’t gotten in twice because of who they were. They’re simply not going to leave Bama out if it’s plausible.
OSU has gotten in*
It’s an Auburn fan. Of course Bama would get in because it’s “bama”. I mean did you expect anything else from a Auburn fan?
Wold I expect anything else from an Auburn fan? Yeah maybe a reference or two to the kick-Six
The only problem with letting the loser of the SECCG in is that you make the game irrelevant. Why even play it? You would be rewarding a loser.
Idiot.
Look, there’s plenty of arguments for the loser of the SECCG not making the playoff, that isn’t one of them. So by his logic, Bama and UGA have to essentially play 3 playoff games, why would you not the same thing about the PSU/OSU we just saw, why isn’t that a “playoff game”? Why isn’t OSU losing by 15 on it’s home field a “playoff game”? It’s because the regular season is not the playoff.
He also just talked about wanting the four best teams no matter what and not wanting any qualifiers as he qualified out the loser of the SECCG. If you’ve watched football this season and don’t think UGA and Bama are two of the top four teams in the country, you’re delusional and/or an Ohio State fan.
The SEC is weak. Ok. Remind me, who has ANY B1G team beaten, outside of other B1G teams? Yeah that’s what I thought.
Seems as though Colin has caught wind of this weekends neutering session…
Do you have some sort of strange fixation with testicles?
ThePalmettoPig,
You are quickly becoming my favorite poster. In the face of an insurmountable challenge where Vegas thinks your opponent should beat you by around 24 points in their house, and you’ve lost several key players to season ending injury, here you are talking trash. Even the South Carolina alumni in my office have conceded defeat already. You sir are either a diehard fan or incredibly stupid. I won’t venture a guess as to which it is, since that would spoil the fun. I’m assuming you’ll be available on this site for comments after the game this Saturday? Should be fun.
you might want schedule a flyfishing trip around 7pm Saturday so after this neutering session you can escape the internet and Cock’s celebration for a bit
Jimmy, Flyfishing trip sounds awesome, but I think I’d rather celebrate the Dawgs win. Well maybe the Dawg’s 2nd and 3rd team will be in early in the third quarter so maybe I can sneak out and wet a line for a bit. On the hand, Cocky’s first team vs UGA’s third team is where the real matchup is. So maybe I’ll stay and watch that. That would at least be interesting.
Blah blah anti-SEC bias blah blah blah anti-SEC bias. More anti-SEC bias blah blah.
No one takes Cowherd seriously.
This guy is a moron.
To recap. Bama and UGA will play the SEC title game on neutral field, no matter the score, should disqualify one of them.. In reality though, one of those Big 10 teams will have a 2nd loss.. So they are irrelevant.
A second loss is only a disqualifier to teams no named Ohio State.
if UGA is considered one of the best 4 teams in the country after the SECCG, we should get in. It’s that simple. The idea of penalizing a team because the conference is considered down is crazy.
First off, he comes across as and sounds like a Sunday morning preacher and not a good one at that. And what’s with this Clemson love. Clemson lost 2 weeks ago to a Syracuse team ranked outside the top 50. His PSU/OU argument is decent but again, all these morons out there elevating Clemson is absurd. Clemson lost to a subpar program and should not even be in the top 10 let alone being discussed as playoff contenders. Even if Clemson runs the table, and GA falls in the SEC Championship (assuming they get there) to Bama, Clemson still isn’t deserving. Notre Dame I believe, is going to destroy Miami (Have you watched both of these teams!), which brings into question the ACC’s record to date. Time will tell. Sure, the SEC is down a bit and the Big 10 is looking fairly good. Regardless, I think Bama or GA would beat any team in the nation. Georgia has only gotten better and Bama is, well, Bama. Let me rephrase that. GEORGIA HAS ONLY GOTTEN BETTER AND BAMA IS, WELL, BAMA! ….
LOL
OSU got blownout by OU at home
Who has penn state played?
The SEC is down this year, but still holds the top 2 teams no doubt
penn state needed a TD on the LAST PLAY of the game to escape IOWA!!
I assume he lumps UGA as a the “really good team” in the SEC and not the great one (Alabama). This after praising Notre Dame and saying the Big 10 has three super talented teams. Pretty much a confirmed idiot.
I don’t think it will happen, but if both Georgia and Alabama play in the College Football Playoffs, I think the 2 Conferences getting left out is the PAC 12 and the ACC. Both conferences are trash, I think once Clemson lost to Syracuse, and when USC, Washington, and Washington State lost games, that was it for them. I think if it does happen, the two teams joining Alabama and UGA would be Ohio State and Oklahoma. But for now, I think it should be the following: Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, and Notre Dame with Clemson and Penn State on the outside looking in.
Isn’t this the same fool who wanted Michigan in the Playoffs last year despite Michigan dropping 2 of its last 3 regular season games?
remember back in the day when everyone thought a rematch of Michigan-OSU would be the bcs championship game because they were “the 2 best teams”? then the gayturds beat the absolute piss out of OSU hahahaha I hate the turds, but damn that was funny!
Hilarious. Cowherd goes all in picking THE ohio state the same week they get they get blown out! He’s an idiot.
