WATCH: Georgia runs worst fake in SEC history, head-scratching decision by Kirby Smart
There are times to gamble, but if Alabama wins, Georgia’s big gamble in the fourth quarter is going to be questioned for years to come.
Facing fourth-and-11 at the Alabama 48-yard line, Kirby Smart dialed up a fake punt. The ball was snapped directly to backup QB Justin Fields. The freshman quarterback did not throw a pass. He was tackled and Georgia turned the ball over on downs, giving Alabama great field position with 3:04 left in a 28-28 game.
Jalen Hurts quickly marched Alabama down the field to make it 35-28. The play, below, might be more talked-about.
