UPDATE: Gerald has announced he will not suit up for the rest of the season but is preparing to compete in 2020.

Arkansas senior defensive lineman Dorian Gerald hasn’t played since the season opener and wasn’t expected to return until 2020, but Gerald hinted on Twitter that he’s ready to get back on the field now.

“And just like that … I’m back,” he tweeted Friday morning.

Gerald has been sidelined with a strained artery in his neck. Former coach Chad Morris ruled him out for the entire season in early September.

“A very strange injury, he’ll be on blood thinners, and he’ll be out for the year,” Morris said at the time.

Gerald has a redshirt year available, and playing in the final two games won’t jeopardize that opportunity. Even if he suits up and appears in the last two contests, Gerald will have only played in three games during the 2019 season. That meets the new redshirt guidelines enacted last year.

Gerald had one tackle and one pass breakup in the season opener against Portland State. Last year, he posted 21 total tackles, including 2.5 for loss, two pass breakups and two quarterback hurries in eight games.
