The Kentucky Wildcats finished the 2014 season with a 5-7 (2-6 SEC) record. Mark Stoops saw a three-game improvement in his second season, coming off a 2-10 (0-8) record. Here are the top 10 best things from Kentucky’s season.

1. Kentucky’s fourth quarter comeback against South Carolina: The Wildcats signature win came in Week 6 against South Carolina. Trailing by 14 points in the fourth quarter, Kentucky rallied to take a 45-38 victory. It was the largest comeback in program history and gave the Wildcats their second conference win of the season.

2. Stanley “Boom” Williams: Williams emerged as Kentucky’s leading rusher, despite splitting carries for the majority of the season. He was named the starter in Week 10 and became the first freshman in program history to rush for 100 yards three times. Williams finished with 488 yards and five touchdowns on 75 attempts.

3. Boom’s big game against Louisville: Williams’ biggest game came against the Louisville’s No. 3 overall rush defense. The freshman recorded a season-best 126 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. Williams capped off his performance with a 14-yard touchdown run that saw him break three tackles en route to the end zone.

4. Braylon Heard’s ridiculous stat line in Week 1: Braylon Heard saw his best performance of 2014 in Kentucky’s opening game. The junior rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns on two attempts, averaging an astounding 58 yards per carry.

5. Patrick Towles vs. Mississippi State: Patrick Towles saw career-highs in a loss to Mississippi State in Week 9. Towles threw for 390 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 76 yards and two touchdowns.

6. Bud Dupree’s senior season: Dupree had a team-best 7.5 sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss, along with the second-highest total tackles (74). Despite missing a bowl game, the senior ended his stellar career with another impressive individual season, finishing with 247 tackles, 37 tackles for loss and 8.0 sacks for his career.

7. 5-2 record at home: Kentucky was 5-2 in games played at Commonwealth Stadium, its first home winning record since 2011. However, the Wildcats struggled on the road, finishing 0-6 for the season.

8. Boom’s cutback touchdown against Florida: Williams had a breakout play in the third game of his collegiate career against Florida. The freshman scored on a 25-yard screen pass by cutting back from the right sideline to the left, giving Kentucky a 26-20 lead in the game’s first overtime series.

9. 600-yard season opener: The Wildcats had their best offensive performance in Week 1. Kentucky recorded 656 total yards and defeated UT Martin, 59-14.

10. Surpassing combined win total from past two seasons: Despite the six-game collapse, the Wildcats exceeded expectations by surpassing their win total from the past two seasons. Kentucky was one-game shy of securing bowl eligibility after winning two games in back-to-back seasons.
