The SEC Tournament produced another upset on Friday as Texas A&M defeated Kentucky, 97-87.

Earlier in the day, top-seeded Tennessee lost to Mississippi State in its quarterfinal matchup. That’s now 2 of the top seeds out of the SEC tournament with the semifinals up next on Saturday.

Here are some takeaways from Texas A&M’s big win:

Hello Wade Taylor IV

Wade Taylor IV put on a show at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee on Friday.

Taylor finished the game with a team-high 32 points. This included going 6-for-14 from 3-point range and 11-24 from the field. Taylor made sure to capitalize at the free throw line as well, going 4-for-5.

The Aggies outlasted what has been an impressive Kentucky offense over the last few games. If Texas A&M’s stars can continue leading the way, a trip to the SEC Tournament final could be in the cards for Williams and his crew.

Basketball in the month of March doesn’t often disappoint and Friday’s set of games have fit the bill so far. Tipoff for Texas A&M’s semifinal bout will be at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Texas A&M continues push for March Madness bid

It hasn’t been the easiest of seasons for Texas A&M fans, but a win over the top seed in the SEC Tournament will do the Aggies some good.

The Aggies will now have to face either Alabama or Florida depending of the winner of that game. A deep run in Nashville could mean that Buzz Williams and Texas A&M go dancing when it’s all said and done.

Texas A&M lost its last matchup with Alabama 100-75. The Aggies rallied for a tight win over the Gators earlier in the season down in College Station.

SEC Tourney is now Alabama, Auburn’s to lose

Thanks to the Bulldogs and Aggies, the road to winning the SEC Tournament just got easier for the Crimson Tide and Tigers.

The top remaining seeds after some of the early quarterfinal matchups are now Alabama and Auburn. Both teams have to be licking their chops after witnessing the destruction of the Vols and Wildcats.

Auburn had its struggles towards the end of the regular against ranked teams, but still finished with 25 wins. Alabama lost its chance to claim the regular season SEC title with back-to-back losses to Tennessee Florida late in the year. However, the Crimson Tide come into the tournament as the No. 4 seed and a chance for revenge against Florida.

Auburn already won its quarterfinal matchup over South Carolina in dominant fashion. Alabama is set to face Florida in the quarters of the SEC Tournament’s Friday night finale. An Alabama win would pit the Tide against Texas A&M on Saturday in the semis.
