In a move that is not at all surprising, Kentucky freshman guar Cason Wallace officially declared for the NBA Draft Saturday morning, ending a 1-year stint in Lexington. In all likelihood, Wallace will be a lottery pick.

Wallace is the 2nd Wildcat to make a move towards the draft, joining forward Jacob Toppin. Oscar Tshiebwe has still yet to make a decision on his future in college basketball as well.

Wallace rose the ranks as a freshman, not uncommon at Kentucky, earning starting PG minutes over Sahvir Wheeler. The Wildcats started their turnaround under Wallace’s command, winning 12 of their last 18 regular season games after starting the year 10-6 with a loss to South Carolina and Mizzou by 14.

Wallace was a good scorer at the college level, but what impresses is his defensive ability and knack for the point position. He was one of the top defending guards in the country last season and dished out 4.3 assists per game against SEC defenses.
