Kentucky’s season once had a ton of promise. The Wildcats were 5-0 not too long ago the 2-time defending champion Georgia Bulldogs coming to Lexington. However, Kentucky lost that game 51-13, and they have won only one game since then.

The team suffered another difficult loss on Saturday, as the Wildcats lost to South Carolina, 17-14.

On his postgame radio show with Tom Leach, coach Mark Stoops could only think about all of the opportunities the Wildcats had.

“We left so many plays on the field, it makes me sick,” Stoops said.

Simple, but to the point. The Wildcats defense was very good all night, and held the Gamecocks to only 257 total yards of offense. The defense was especially great against the run, as South Carolina ran the ball for only 50 yards on 33 carries.

Turnovers doomed the Wildcats on Saturday night, as they had 3 while South Carolina didn’t turn the ball over one time.

With just over 2 minutes remaining, the Wildcats had the ball at midfield. However, on the first play of the drive, quarterback Devin Leary fumbled the ball and the Gamecocks recovered. Despite that, Kentucky got the ball back with another chance, but turned the ball over on downs with 14 seconds left.

The Wildcats will be back in action next week against in-state rival Louisville.
