John Calipari announces Sahvir Wheeler will miss Senior Day ceremony for Wildcats, provides reasoning
John Calipari took to Twitter to announce that senior guard Sahvir Wheeler will miss tonight’s Senior Day ceremony while recovering from a procedure that is “unrelated” to his ankle injury. That same ankle injury has caused the former Georgia transfer to miss the past 6 games for the Wildcats.
Wheeler is one of 6 seniors on the Kentucky team that were set to go through the ceremony, also including Oscar Tshiebwe, CJ Fredrick, Antonio Reeves, Jacob Toppin and Brennan Canada.
The Wildcats are taking on Vanderbilt:
Sahvir had a minor procedure unrelated to his ankle injury this morning and will be out for a bit. Because he’s recovering today, he will not be part of tonight’s Senior Day ceremony.

Calipari went on to write, ” I hate that Sahvir won’t be able to hear #BBN show him how much we all love him on Senior Day tonight. Looking forward to getting him back on the court with us soon!!”
As for Wheeler, all that’s left is to hope for the best. Calipari specifically mentioned that his procedure is unrelated to his ankle injury, but the extent or severity of such has not been revealed quite yet.
Hot Streak
Kentucky has had a very strong February, moving themselves well into the discussion for an NCAA Tournament bid. They seem to have skirted disaster and, barring a collapse, should be in the field come Selection Sunday.
Increasing their 4-game winning streak to 5 is paramount, though. Vanderbilt has played like a different team across the month of February and is attempting to make a last-ditch run of their own at the Field of 68. It’s unlikely, but a win over the Wildcats in a raucous road environment is certainly a good place to start.
Crazier things have happened. Let’s see if the Wildcats can take care of business on Senior night.
