Kentucky freshman wideout Dorian Baker laid a vicious block on LSU linebacker Kendell Beckwith in the third quarter of the Tigers’ rout in Death Valley, and even as Beckwith was tended to by the medical staff following the hit, Baker continued to jaw at the Tigers in the aftermath of the play.

The play began with Kentucky quarterback Patrick Towles escaping to his right, hoping to get around the edge to earn a modest gain on a broken play. Beckwith was charging hard in pursuit of the Cats’ quarterback when Baker hustled back into the picture to lay a block for his teammate. Baker’s hustle is admirable, but his execution and immature actions following the block were disappointing, to say the least.

The hit is definitely a helmet to helmet blow, and depending on your interpretation it could be considered a hit on a defenseless player as well. And even when Beckwith appeared to be obviously shaken up after the play, Baker still barked at Beckwith’s LSU teammates despite trailing 41-3 on the scoreboard.

It was not Kentucky’s finest moment on a night with few positives. The Wildcats were clearly frustrated by their performance, bit they’ll need to find better ways to deal with those frustrations in the future.
