Kentucky offensive coordinator Neal Brown will be leaving Lexington to take the head coaching job at Troy, according to a report from footballscoop.com. Brown will take over for Larry Blakeney, who announced in October that he’d be retiring after 24 seasons.

Brown just completed his second year at Kentucky. He’s helped the Wildcats rise up from 13th in the SEC in total offense in his first year to No. 9 in the conference this season, with the Wildcats averaging just under 390 yards per game. Kentucky averaged 17.9 points the year before Brown took over the offense and rose to 29.2 points per game this season.

Brown’s first FBS coaching job came at Troy, where he was hired as the inside receivers coach in 2006, rising to offensive coordinator in 2008 at just 28 years old. At 34, Brown will be one of the youngest head coaches in FBS.

A Kentucky native, Brown split his college career between UK and Massachusetts as a wide receiver. After several FCS coaching stops and four years at Troy, Brown moved onto Texas Tech as an offensive coordinator under Tommy Tuberville before Kentucky hired him in December 2012.
