Kentucky fans woke up and didn’t receive the best news regarding Elijah Groves on Tuesday as the linebacker decommitted from the Wildcats.

Groves is a 4-star LB out of Cross Plains (Tenn.) East Roberson. The 247Sports Composite has Groves as the No. 25 LB and No. 7 Tennessee prospect in the 2024 class.

Groves is listed at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds.

Here’s what Groves had to say about the decision:

“First off I want to thank god for giving me a chance to further my football career to the next level. I want to thank all my family for putting a roof over my head and clothes on my back,” Groves wrote on social media. “I want to thank my high school coaches for me in not only as an athlete but as a son, but with all that being said I will be decommitting from Kentucky and opening my recruitment back up.”

No other SEC schools have offered Groves outside of Kentucky. He has Power 5 offers from N.C. State, Virginia Tech, and Purdue.

Groves’ decommitment means that Kentucky now has 1 linebacker as a verbal commit in the class of 2024. Devin Smith is the only true linebacker committed to the Wildcats at the moment as a 3-star prospect.
