Liam Coen, Kentucky’s offensive coordinator, was hospitalized after suffering a “medical episode,” according to a statement from the university’s athletic department released Sunday evening.

On Sept. 10, 2023, at approximately 12:40 p.m., assistant football coach Liam Coen had a medical episode while at work at UK’s football offices on campus. He is currently in good condition at UK Chandler Hospital, while doctors and medical personnel continue to monitor him, and is expected to be released Monday. Out of respect for his privacy and that of his family, we will have no additional comment at this time.

Coen is in his 2nd season overall with the Wildcats. He was their offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2021 before leaving for the NFL to become the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams. After the 2022 season, he stepped down to return to Lexington.

The Wildcats are currently 2-0 after wins over Ball State and Eastern Kentucky, but the obvious priority at this time is Coen’s well-being. Fortunately, he is expected to be discharged on Monday, which is good news.
