One of the most beloved Kentucky players of all time passed away earlier this year, and the Wildcats decided to honor Jared Lorenzen at Saturday’s game against Arkansas.

Because Lorenzen was such a jovial character, UK decided a moment of silence was not appropriate. How about 22 seconds of noise? The 22 is in honor of the number Lorenzen wore, which QB Terry Wilson wore in his honor on Saturday.

Lorenzen’s family and former coach Rich Brooks were on hand at Kroger field, as Lorenzen’s highlights were shown on the Jumbotron while the school played “My Old Kentucky Home.”

Fans were also given commemorative rally towels at the game, as many likely remembered Lorenzen’s historic game against Arkansas in 2003.

When the Wildcats trailed the Hogs in the second half, Lorenzen noticed some fans leaving and yelled into the stands that they were going to miss “a hell of a game.” They did, indeed, miss what many would consider “a hell of a game,” as Lorenzen led a UK comeback that produced a seven-overtime thriller.
