According to Alex Forkner of 247 Sports, linebacker Kobie Walker will be leaving Lexington via transfer before the 2017 season gets started.

Entering his fourth year with the team, the redshirt junior was struggling to find playing time and will pursue opportunities elsewhere. He didn’t see the field much during his time in Lexington, only recording 10 total tackles across three games of action.

Walker was rated as a three-star recruit as part of the 2014 class, which also included Matt Elam and Drew Barker.

Kentucky is fairly deep at linebacker, with many starters returning from last season including Courtney Love, Josh Allen, and Jordan Jones. Though Walker will have to sit out a year of eligibility if he stays in division one, it appears that he will find more opportunity elsewhere.

  • Hey, SevenT, remember when you said the game against Ole Miss “will be a W”? Your starting LBs don’t have anybody to sub out with! Better hope your starting LBs get some sleep before Saturdays because they’re going to be dragging ass come 2nd QT.

    • Anytime you can replace experience with true freshman, it gives you the excuse, ‘we’re young at that position’.
We never run out of excuses.
But with the defense being mentored by a head coach who made his stripes coaching Mickey Andrews recruits at Florida State, wonder how they will explain the last 3 Division One teams scoring 120 points and averaged 40 a game against the Cats?
And it was great news to see our upcoming schedule is ranked last in the conference in strength. Ole Mitch only brings in the best ‘baby seals’ he can find.
That’s why we will remain he laughing stock of the SEC.

    • Kentucky is solid at LB with Jordan Jones and Josh Allen leading the way. The D line is going to be KY’s weakness

      • Read my post again. Those good LBs are losing their backups. Jones and Allen may be good but they can’t play full-speed play after play after play, with no breather. I wouldn’t say the LB position is strong.

        • Jordan jones, Courtney Love, Kash Daniel, Josh Allen, Denzil Ware, Eli Brown, Jamar Watson, Roland Walker, Joshua Paschal. They’re fine, dude.

        • 5 of which are Freshman… I’ll give some credit to the 3 sophomores you named.

        • One freshman, not five…..you don’t know what you’re talking about.

        • Kentucky’s rosters are jacked up everywhere. I just looked them all up individually and, yes, you are correct. I apologize.

  • The reason for this is because we needed about 3 more scholarships on the roster for the players coming in this year & players were expected to transfer to open up these spots. I don’t doubt that the coaching staff insinuates to certain players that they should transfer also, especially for someone like Kobie Walker, would probably wouldn’t get much playing time this year anyways.
