Rupp Arena is pulling the plug on a brand-new court and getting a replacement for the home court of Kentucky basketball.

Rupp Arena confirmed Thursday afternoon that the University of Kentucky recently enlisted the help of Robbins Inc. to produce a new portable court to be used. That court was in use for the Dec. 2 game against UNC Wilmington, but both Robbins and the university were unsatisfied with the performance of the court.

“Robbins produced a custom structural design unique to the Rupp Arena Floor. Although the floor performed as intended when tested at the factory, both Robbins and UK officials were not satisfied with the performance of the floor under game conditions,” said John Puening, a Robbins Product Manager. “For this reason, Robbins is expediting a floor replacement and looks forward to delivering a new floor to Rupp Arena as soon as possible.”

Until that replacement court is finished, both Kentucky’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will play on the old court.

While the court likely impacted both teams on Dec. 2, it’s worth pointing out Kentucky lost that game to UNC Wilmington, 80-73. However, Kentucky fans were not about to overlook an unsatisfactory playing surface when it came to the loss.

Here’s a glimpse at a number of fans and how they reacted to the news of the playing conditions:
