No. 13 Kentucky has been one of the biggest surprises of the 2018 college football season. The undefeated Wildcats have upset two ranked teams thus far and are looking to post their best season in over a decade.

During an appearance on the Paul Finebaum Show Monday, Kentucky legend Tim Couch gloated on his Wildcats, and how incredible this season has been for his former school.

“It’s been a great start to the season. We couldn’t have asked for anything better. The team is playing great and excitement is at an all-time high,” Couch said. “I’m grateful to Mark Stoops and the job he’s done in building the program.”

“We look like an SEC football team as far as our personnel. We can dominate at the point of attack on both sides of the ball and we’ve never been able to do that. The thought was always that we needed to do something different to compete in the SEC. We have that now and it’s cool to see. I never thought I’d see the day but that’s where we’re at now.”

Kentucky had a rough start to the season in Week 1, and led Central Michigan by just one point at halftime. The Wildcats ended up winning the game by 15, but the first sign of something special for Kentucky occurred in Week 2, when it went down to the Swamp and dominated the Gators in a 27-16 win, the first program win against Florida in 31 years.

“I think it was huge. I was part of three of those games myself and grew up listening to that. I thought we had a good opportunity but we weren’t able to do it,” Couch said. “To go down there and win that game and do it the way we did, we just looked like the better football team. For the last few years we’ve been the better football team and to get over that hump is huge for our program and gave our guys so much confidence going forward.”

Kentucky has a big matchup on the road this week against Texas A&M, a team that took No. 4 Clemson down to the wire in Week 2.

“There’s a lot that has to happen. We have to stay healthy and we have to continue to get better each week. Versus Texas A&M we’ll know exactly what kind of football team we have. It would be great for our program and set the tone for the rest of the year but we have to take it week to week. We can’t get ahead of ourselves, we just have to continue to improve.”

The season isn’t even halfway over, but Kentucky is definitely one of the teams to watch in the SEC. If they can win on the road against the Aggies however, then expect the hype train to continue chugging along.
