Ugonna Onyenso entered the transfer portal earlier this month, but is now reportedly considering a return to the Wildcats for the 2023-24 season.

According to KSR’s Jack Pilgrim, Ugonna Onyenso is still weighing his options and could pull his name out of the transfer portal. Per the report, Onyenso’s original decision to enter the portal was NIL-driven.

If Onyenso does return to Kentucky for next season, it would be a big boost for the program’s depth at center. Onyenso is a former 4-star prospect who should promise last season as a true freshman.

He played in 16 games off the bench a year ago as the Wildcats mostly played Oscar Tshiebwe and Damion Collins at center. Onyenso was the No. 36 overall player in the country as a recruit in 2022, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

With Tshiebwe having declared for the NBA Draft, Kentucky’s starting center spot is currently vacant for the 2023-24 season. It’s possible the Wildcats will land a transfer to fill that void, but Onyenso could also end up competing for the job if he decides to return.
