Mark Stoops has worked quickly to fill the opening on his coaching staff following the departure of Matt House to the NFL as Kentucky alum Jon Sumrall is set to become the 10th assistant coach in Lexington.

House, formerly the defensive coordinator in Lexington, left Kentucky to become the linebackers coach for the Kansas City Chiefs. Sumrall served one season in Oxford as linebackers coach under Matt Luke and is expected to fill the same role for the Wildcats.

News of Sumrall’s hire in Lexington was first reported by Chase Parham of Rebel Grove, the Rivals’ Ole Miss affiliate.

Sumrall played linebacker at Kentucky from 2002-2004 and was the program’s leading tackler as a senior. His coaching career features stops at the University of San Diego, Tulane and Troy before landing being hired at Ole Miss.
