College football games often have bigger implications than we realize, and this week, we got a good look at how important college football can be to certain people.

According to usatoday.com, gifts in the name of LSU PK Cole Tracy keep rolling in to Assumption College, where Tracy played before making the jump to the SEC. The note that’s often attached with the donations is, “Thank you for sending us Cole Tracy.”

This all comes on the heels of Tracy’s 42-yard game-winning field goal which gave the No. 12 Tigers the upset win over No. 7 Auburn on Saturday.

It may be a little crazy that LSU fans are giving money to a NCAA Division II school in Massachusetts just because it’s where their new kicker hails from, but it’s a pretty great thing for the small school.

“It’s hysterical,” said Tim Stanton, Assumption’s vice president for institutional advancement. “It’s great. It’s terrific.”

In fact, before LSU even played Auburn last week, Assumption had received seven gifts totaling more than $500.

A couple of those gifts were for $54, for Tracy’s 54-yard field goal against Miami in the season opener. After Tracy’s 42-yarder against Auburn, the $42 donations started rolling in.

Stanton says that per Tracy’s request, the gifts made his name will go to support Assumption’s football program, and Stanton has even thought about naming a goalpost or even the field after Tracy.

“We don’t know where this is gonna end,” Stanton said. “If this continues and gets to a higher amount, there will probably be some kind of naming opportunity. If it really reached some significant levels — this might sounds ludicrous, but like $1 million — we’d name the field after him.”
