Andre Sam was ejected after a controversial targeting call in LSU’s matchup with Florida Saturday night.

Sam, a senior safety, was trying to tackle Florida running back Montrell Johnson when he went in for a hit and led with his helmet. His helmet seemed to make contact with Johnson’s, and that was enough for officials to eject him after a lengthy review.

The hit is sure to spark some controversy and LSU fans aren’t going to be happy with it, especially with the game still close in the 2nd quarter.

Sam has been a big part of LSU’s defense this season with 58 tackles and 3 interceptions. The Tigers’ secondary has struggled this season, and the absence of Sam the rest of the game won’t make things easier.

LSU currently leads Florida 17-14 with just a few minutes to play in the first half.
