LSU and Texas have engaged in a debate over who has the best defensive backs around, “the real DBU,” if you will. The trash talk, and even T-shirts, have stoked the conversation that is likely to be settled on Saturday night when they meet in Austin.

Truth be told, both programs have a history of all-time players at that position. LSU boasts Patrick Peterson, Tyrann Mathieu, Morris Claiborne and Greedy Williams to name a few. But Texas has some of its own, including Michael Huff, who coach Tom Herman said came up with the idea for the Longhorns to wear T-shirts that said, “The real DBU,” according to The Advocate. Huff is now on the staff as an assistant.

Texas DB Brandon Jones asked Herman and was granted permission to wear the T-shirts during pre-game warm-ups last week. Jones and Caden Sterns are both Bronko Nagurski Trophy candidates, making Texas one of only three programs to have multiple DBs on the award’s preseason watch list. LSU and Michigan are the other two.

But now a restaurant has entered the fray. Jacques Doucet of WAFB and Michael Cauble have each captured a marquee sign by “Zippy’s,” a Baton Rouge restaurant that proudly serves “burritos, tacos and more.”

“If Texas is DBU, then we’re Ruth’s Steakhouse.”

With a few days to go before kick off, don’t be surprised if a Texas restaurant counters with a similar sign before Saturday.
