Brian Kelly is reportedly looking to reunite with a former assistant. According to FootballScoop’s John Brice, Kelly is targeting Cincinnati offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock for the same position at LSU.

Kelly and Denbrock are close friends and have worked together before. They were both graduate assistants at Division II program Grand Valley State in 1987 and spent 15 years on coaching staffs together. Denbrock held both the offensive coordinator (1992-95) and defensive coordinator (1996-98) under Kelly at Grand Valley State. Denbrock worked under Kelly at Notre Dame from 2010-16 holding various positions on the offensive staff.

Denbrock was Notre Dame’s offensive coordinator for the 2014 season. When he left Notre Dame to be Cincinnati’s offensive coordinator after the 2016 season, Denbrock was associate head coach and wide receivers coach for the Irish.

Cincinnati defeated Notre Dame 24-13 this season. The No. 4 Bearcats face No. 1 Alabama in the Cotton Bowl on Dec. 31.
