LSU head coach Brian Kelly is not happy with his team’s performance against Florida State on Sunday.

Kelly had no trouble expressing his feelings about how the team played during his press conference Tuesday afternoon.

“That was a disappointing performance,” Kelly said. No one is happy with it. No one from the LSU fan base should be happy with it. I’m certainly not. We’re disappointed.”

While he says it’s not an excuse, he says part of the reason why LSU struggled was because of all the new faces on the field for the first time.

“We had 11 true freshmen on that trip, 5 first-time starters — 4 on defense — and we had 14 transfers,” Kelly said. “50 percent of that roster was going through it for the first time.”

Ultimately, Kelly got a different team than he was expecting on Sunday. If LSU wants success this season, the team will need to work things out psychologically.

“This is not the team I thought it was,” Kelly said. “This has nothing to do with their physical ability. I knew who they were physically. But when you’re playing and competing at the highest level, this is about a connection between the mind and the body, and there was a disconnect there.”
