After having to undergo brain surgery to remove a tumor earlier in September, LSU safety Greg Brooks has started to make some progress, but has a long road to recovery ahead of him.

Brian Kelly gave an update on Brooks’ progress during the SEC coaches teleconference Wednesday morning.

“He’s making progress. When we talk about progress after brain surgery, you can imagine it’s a slow process,” Kelly said. “He recognizes me. He’s able to make eye contact. He was up for rehabilitation, he was going through every rehab that day. He’s up on his feet moving around. But there’s a long journey here for him. But it’s great to see that he’s making that progress.”

Brooks, a senior, had 63 tackles and 2 interceptions last year in his first season with the Tigers after transferring from Arkansas. While LSU would love to have Brooks back on the field as soon as possible, ensuring he has the best recovery possible is top priority.

LSU will have a tough matchup this weekend as the Tigers take on Ole Miss.
