Brian Kelly and LSU picked up their 7th win of the season on Saturday night after Jayden Daniels’ monster performance against Florida.

Florida held a lead in the 3rd quarter, but a late push from LSU saw the Tigers take control in the 4th quarter and win the game 52-25.

The biggest storyline from the game was another incredible performance from Daniels. The quarterback had 372 passing yards, 234 rushing yards and 5 total touchdowns. Kelly believes that Daniels should be the favorite for the Heisman trophy following the game.

“If he didn’t win it tonight, he should be at least the leading candidate,” Kelly said in his postgame press conference. “He did something that nobody has ever done. If he doesn’t win it, then it is just a popularity contest and doesn’t get to the best player.”

Daniels was in concussion protocol at the beginning of the week, so he was limited in practice all week. Kelly said after the game that Daniels was taking mental reps all week and began non-contact preparation on Wednesday.

Kelly also gave credit to Florida quarterback Graham Mertz, who had 311 yards and a touchdown in the game.

“I thought their quarterback was really good, our quarterback was just better,” Kelly said.

The game also featured a controversial play. LSU safety Andre Sam was ejected for targeting after a debatable call. Kelly gave his thoughts on the call, bringing up last week’s hit that Daniels took against Alabama that was not deemed targeting.

“That guy last week that hit Jayden Daniels was trying to take him out,” Kelly said. (Andre Sam) was just making a football play.”
