Just when you thought LSU’s 2019 team couldn’t be more impressive, 20 former Tigers landed on NFL rosters over the weekend as either draft picks or undrafted free agents.

It total, the Tigers had 14 draft selections, with half of those coming during the first two rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft.

While many of these former Tigers will be expected to see the field immediately for their new teams, Ed Orgeron referenced one player that could prove to be a real find for his new franchise during his Monday appearance on Baton Rouge-based 104.5 FM radio program “Off The Bench.”

According to Orgeron, he spoke to many NFL coaches about Saahdiq Charles and praised the young man as someone that will show up and work hard every day to make the team better on the field.

“Over the years, you create great relationships with coaches,” Orgeron said on the show. “Coaches are like a fraternity and coaches are going to trust the coaches that tell them the truth. They call me, I’m going to tell them right down the middle and our players know that, too. With Saahdiq, he had some off the field problems.

“Saahdiq is a good young man. He is not a – I love him, I recruited him. He came to work every day. He had some off the field problems that he’s got to shake, I think he has shook them. If Saahdiq would have stayed, he probably would have been a first or second-round draft choice.”

The way Orgeron tells it, if Charles continues to do the right things off the field, Washington is going to be thrilled it took a chance on the young offensive lineman.

“If he can do the right things, which I think he can, they got a steal in the fourth round,” Orgeron added. “I told [Washington] Ron [Rivera], ‘I have no problem with Saahdiq, he came in on a daily basis. He’s a great young man, never gave me problems as far as football-wise and work ethic.'”
