On the weekly SEC coaches teleconference Wednesday, LSU coach Ed Orgeron was asked about former Tigers quarterback TJ Finley and his performance last season against South Carolina.

It might have seemed like an odd question, but Finley is now at Auburn, and he will be the starting quarterback against the Gamecocks on Saturday night in Columbia, as stater Bo Nix is out for the season.

A year ago, Finley completed 17-of-21 passes for 265 yards and 2 touchdowns and added 24 yards a score on the ground against South Carolina in a 52-24 LSU win.

Orgeron offered some thoughts about Finley’s play in that game and what type of player he was at LSU.

“He’s in the classroom, a hard worker, always first out to practice,” said Orgeron of Finley. “He has a cannon for an arm, throws one of the best back-shoulder routes I’ve ever seen. … I was very proud of him (in the South Carolina game).”
