Jayden Daniels is set to be in the Heisman Trophy mix despite LSU’s 8-3 record.

Daniels has put together remarkable numbers in 2023, throwing for 3,577 yards and 36 touchdowns vs. just 4 interceptions. On the ground, he’s racked up 1,014 yards and 10 touchdowns on 124 carries.

LSU’s Heisman campaign has been in full force, and it’s taken the next step. It purchased billboards in Seattle, Detroit, and Ypsilanti, Mich.

The message has been clearly sent by LSU: it feels that Jayden Daniels has done more than enough for the Heisman. Whether the voters will feel the same way remains to be seen.

Seeking to sway Seattle voters from voting for Penix, however, is an incredibly bold strategy by the Tigers. Penix has Washington playing for a Pac-12 championship and a spot in the College Football Playoff, having thrown for 3,695 yards and 30 touchdowns through 11 games.

It’s worth noting that Daniels faced Washington while at Arizona State before star quarterback Michael Penix Jr. transferred to UW. The Sun Devils outscored Washington 21-6 in the 4th to win 35-30 as Daniels was 10-of-16 for 90 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception — while picking up 56 yards and a score on 15 carries.

LSU is currently in action against Texas A&M, its last contest before a bowl game. The Tigers will not be playing in the SEC Championship Game, having lost twice in conference play.
