Joe Burrow says 2019 title with LSU was the last time he was satisfied

Joe Burrow has done pretty well for himself throughout his football career.

He was a Heisman Trophy winner and a national champion at LSU. He was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. He’s a 2-time Pro Bowler. He won the AP Comeback Player of the Year in 202. And he has started in a Super Bowl.

But that 2021 Super Bowl appearance โ€”ย a 23-20 loss to the Rams โ€”ย feels like ancient history. The Bengals lost the AFC title game to the Kansas City Chiefs the following year and haven’t been back to the playoffs since. Burrow is a finalist for the MVP this season, but that seems far from his mind.

During a round of media interviews on Thursday, the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback joined Kay Adams on the Up & Adams show and said he hasn’t been satisfied since that 2019 title.

“That felt like a culmination of a lot of different things that came together and worked out well for me,” Burrow said. “A Super Bowl will definitely satisfy me.”

Burrow had an outstanding season in 2024; he was the only MVP finalist among 5 players whose team didn’t make the playoffs. The fifth-year man led the NFL with a career-high 4,918 yards passing and posted a career-best 43 passing touchdowns. His interception rate was the lowest since his rookie season, and he also set a new career-high for passer rating.

At bet365, Cincinnati is +2000 to win Super Bowl LX. The Bengals are the next AFC team outside a clear top tier with Kansas City (+600), Buffalo (+650), and Baltimore (+700).
