Any college football fan will tell you: Les Miles is a national treasure. From his odd phrases to colorful language to interesting eating habits, Miles is always good for a chuckle. Monday is the Mad Hatter’s 61st birthday, and to celebrate we’re looking back at some of the most interesting press conference moments throughout his career at LSU.

1. “I don’t read books”

Miles may be employed by an institute of higher learning, but that doesn’t mean the coach does a lot of reading.

2. “Have a great day”

Right before the 2007 SEC Championship game, news broke that Miles would be leaving LSU to take the head coaching job at Michigan. Miles himself called a press conference to address the false report, delivering an epic closing to an impassioned rant. “We’re busy…have a great day.”

3. “We’re going to have to play that position next year?”

Earlier this season, Miles was asked about what he thought about LSU’s quarterback position for 2015. The coach handled the question about as perfectly as he could have.

4. “Excuse my language”

After LSU’s 2012 win over Ole Miss, Miles was pumped up. He went on a profanity-laced rant praising his team’s effort, then, realizing he should probably keep it PG, asked the media to forgive his word choice. He then encouraged all the women in the press room, and possibly all of Baton Rouge, to give his players a kiss. What a guy.

5. “It’s Columbus Day”

Leave it to Les Miles to expound on the differences between Columbus Day and St. Patrick’s Day.

Honorable mention: Les takes a tumble

You’ve never heard someone go as deep in detail on how they ended up taking a spill as Miles did back in 2011. He’s one of the few SEC coaches that can hit the “upper quadrant of speed.”
