LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri gets emotional talking about 1,500th win after Tigers take down Texas A&M
It took 13 innings, but LSU came away with an important 12-6 win victory over Texas A&M.
The victory had significance beyond improving the Tigers’ record to 33-21 overall and 12-17 in SEC play. The win was No. 1,500 for LSU head coach Paul Mainieri and guaranteed his squad will play in at least the SEC Tournament as one of the top 12 teams in the conference.
Speaking with reporters after the game, Mainieri got emotional, needing a moment to collect himself when talking about win No. 1,500.

LSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning but Texas A&M answered with three runs in the bottom half of the first and three more in the second inning. The Aggies were done scoring for the night but LSU put together a four-run fourth to tie it up 6-6. The score remained until the top of the 13th when LSU exploded for six more runs to make it 12-6. Devin Fontenot earned the win.
