LSU baseball dropped its first game of the season on Friday afternoon.

The Tigers fell 5-2 to Stony Brook in Baton Rouge, moving to 5-1 on the season. LSU entered this game ranked No. 2 nationally behind only Wake Forest.

LSU managed just 6 hits against Stony Brook, all of which went for singles. The Seawolves, on the other side, scored 5 runs on 10 hits in their upset victory.

Thatcher Hurd earned the loss after starting this game on the mound and conceding 3 runs on 6 hits over 4.1 innings. It’s the second bad outing in a row for Hurd to start the 2024 season. He gave up 4 runs on 2.2 innings of work against VMI last Friday night (LSU ended up winning 11-8). The Tigers will ned Hurd to get on track quickly if he’s going to stay in their weekend rotation this season.

LSU still has a couple games remaining this weekend. It will face Northern Illinois on Saturday and then get a rematch vs. Stony Brook on Sunday afternoon to wrap up the weekend.
