LSU baseball is still alive in the 2023 College World Series, but the Tigers are also keeping an eye on their future.

LSU landed a commitment from Xavier transfer Justin Loer on Sunday afternoon. Loer was one of the top pitchers in the country this season and posted a 1.89 ERA.

Here’s his announcement:

Loer, a left-handed pitcher, earned all-Big East honors for his performance this season with Xavier. He struck out 63 batters in 57 innings in 2023.

Loer will join a LSU pitching staff that will be tasked with replacing ace Paul Skenes, who was arguably the top arm in the country this season. Skenes is expected to go in the top 5 of this summer’s MLB Draft.

This was Loer’s second season at Xavier. He posted an ERA of 3.55 as a true freshman in 2022. He will have 2 years of eligibility remaining with the Tigers.

LSU will face Wake Forest in a winner’s bracket game on Monday night.

The news of his commitment was first reported by D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers.
