LSU is adding to its coaching staff in the wake of its 55-49 loss at Ole Miss in Week 5. WGNO’s Ed Daniels is reporting that Pete Jenkins is coming out of retirement to join the staff.

The 82-year-old Jenkins retired at the conclusion of the 2017 campaign as LSU’s defensive line coach. Jenkins has been a football coach since 1964 and has coached in the SEC at LSU, South Carolina, Mississippi State and Auburn. Jenkins also coached in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The veteran coach has guided numerous players to all-conference and All-America honors. Jenkins has helped over 30 college players reach the pros, such as former LSU standouts Leonard Marshall, Henry Thomas, Roland Barbay, Jarvis Green and Marcus Spears.

Most recently, Jenkins aided LSU players such as Arden Key and Davon Godchaux during his last stint with the Tigers.

Jenkins has coached in 14 bowls and served on 2 NFL postseason squads in a career that has spanned 22 years in the SEC and 3 years in the pros.

LSU gave up 706 total yards to Ole Miss, with the balanced Rebels going for over 300 yards passing and rushing. No. 23 LSU will aim to avoid a losing streak when they travel to face No. 21 Missouri in Week 6.
