Not so fast? Potential road block reportedly emerges in LSU's plan to hire Ryan Nielsen as new DC
Reports surfaced on Monday that the LSU Tigers were nearing a deal with New Orleans Saints assistant Ryan Nielsen to become their new defensive coordinator.
However, as ESPN College GameDay analyst Lee Corso would say, “not so fast, my friend!” It seems a potential road block has emerged in the situation.
Per NFL reporter Jane Slater, there’s a dispute about language in Nielsen’s contract that might not allow him to move to the college ranks and it seems the Saints aren’t signing off on the move:
So this will get interesting. Apparently there is a dispute on whether the language of Nielsen’s contract will support the move to the college ranks. The #Saints are currently NOT signing off on this per sources. https://t.co/Wz6c9X5cn8

What does that mean? Well, it could all be as simple as LSU having to buy out the rest of Nielsen’s contract with the Saints. Or, it could be more difficult. We’ll see what happens as this situation continues to evolve.
LSU is replacing DC Bo Pelini, who only lasted 1 year with the Tigers in his second stint in Baton Rouge.
Anybody else smell a dumpster fire? Asking for a friend.
No. It’s just you. Wash your upper lip and see if that changes things for you.
Go clean your tooth off gump. After all it’s the only one you have left.
One 9-1 season with an Orange Bowl victory against a team missing their best players is all it takes folks.
Thankfully, most Aggie fans are better than that.
Don’t forget to wash that upper lip!
LSUSMC – now THAT was a good one! I enjoy a good comeback!!
Just having a little fun. Some people take this a bit to serious.
Wow. Tacky to insult someone like that. Classless.
Everything related to LSWHO is a dumpster fire. They’ve been turned down by multiple DCs and it’s getting more embarrassing by the moment. May improve to only 4 losses next year with this guy but that would be an average season for the corn dogs…..
Ignorance seems to be your calling card.
You’re a little preoccupied with LSU dont’cha think??
The Saints are probably making a mistake here. They don’t really want to alienate LSU fans, nor should they be denying a guy a promotion. Not a good look for a team heading towards transition.
I agree … if Nielson wanted to go they should’ve let him. Guess it gave him some leverage in the end.
Saints are probably trying to bleed some cash out of LSU boosters. It’s been a rough year for everyone.
Is this simply a money play by the bensons?
bensons? no, benson? nah, loomis? most likely.
LSU dodged a bullet. Time to get laser focused on wooing the King of 3rd down defense, Todd Grantham. Standing next to him will make Coach O look lean and fit.
You wish.
No thanks. You keep Todd, he’s done so well for your lizards why would you want to let him go? LSU will get a DC that has to be better than Bo, a DC that can build on players strengths and know their weaknesses and make in-game adjustments quickly. I am hoping for no opt outs and portals for this upcoming season as well. O needs to to raise and set the culture and the standards going forward.
Dang! LSU seems to be snake bit trying to get a DC.
