As rumors fly about quarterbacks from around the country transferring to LSU, the Tigers may be on the verge of landing a touted high school quarterback. Torrance Gibson, a four-star quarterback from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., will be taking an official visit to LSU on January 23, according to a report from Ryan Bartow of 247sports.

Gibson, a dual-threat quarterback ranked as the No. 74 recruit  and No. 5 athlete in the nation, per 247sports’ industry composite ranks, has been committed to Ohio State since November.

The Buckeyes currently have quite a crowd at quarterback, with freshman J.T. Barrett, sophomore Cardale Jones and senior Braxton Miller, who has another year of eligibility, all on the roster this year. All have proven they are capable of leading the offense; Jones, the Buckeyes’ third-string quarterback, just led OSU to a Sugar Bowl win over Alabama, putting the Buckeyes in the national championship. Barrett played his way into Heisman contention this year before being injured late in the season after replacing an injured Miller in preseason.

LSU had major issues at quarterback in 2014, and as a result there are rumors of several big-name quarterbacks, such as Notre Dame’s Everett Golson, transferring to play for the Tigers in 2015. In 2014, LSU had two young quarterbacks, sophomore Anthony Jennings and freshman Brandon Harris. Jennings struggled all year, completing just 48.9 percent of his passes, while Harris barely got on the field after making his only start of the season at Auburn.

If Les Miles and the Tigers are able to flip Gibson from the Buckeyes, it would be a boost to a recruiting class that has recently risen into the national top 10. Gibson would also be one of the best high school quarterbacks Miles has signed; one of the few negatives of Miles’ coaching tenure has been his track record when it comes to recruiting quarterbacks.
