LSU may lose some offensive depth prior to the start of fall camp, according to multiple reports.

Tigers 5th-year senior tight end Jamal Pettigrew has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. It’s important to note that just because he entered the portal doesn’t mean he’ll ultimately transfer. It does, however, give other schools the opportunity to make contact with him.

The veteran offensive player has recorded just 2 catches for 17 yards in his career. LSU did lose 2 tight ends from last year’s team — Stephen Sullivan and Thaddeus Moss, but the nation’s top tight end recruit Arik Gilbert signed with the Tigers during the 2020 recruiting cycle.

The 6-foot-5, 253-pound prospect should be an immediate impact-type player for LSU’s offense.

In addition to Gilbert, Kole Taylor and Nick Storz were notably ahead of Pettigrew on the depth chart.

When Pettigrew signed with LSU in the class of 2016, he was rated a 4-star prospect and was ranked as the nation’s No. 9 tight end and the state of Louisiana’s No. 16 overall prospect, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.
