Shaquille O’Neal dropped quite the take on the latest episode of The Big Podcast with Shaq. The former NBA great and LSU hoops legend insisted that LSU women’s basketball star Angel Reese is the “greatest athlete to ever come out of LSU sports.”

Joe Burrow? Pete Maravich? Shaq himself? Not quite.

O’Neal’s argument that Reese is better than himself from a collegiate standpoint stems from the fact that she won a ring. Shaq, despite being the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft and averaging 21+ points per game, never cut down the nets with the Tigers.

“Guess what? She delivered,” he said. “She delivered that package. See, a lot of us got the package, and we still got the package in our truck. She delivered that package. So, you know, there’s a lot of names you could throw around — men and women — but she’s probably the greatest athlete. Some people are going to exclude it to women athletes. I’m not doing that. She’s the greatest athlete to ever come out of LSU.”

But wait, what about Joe Burrow? After all, his 2019 squad is one of the greatest college football teams ever fielded and was hardly even opposed in its journey to a national title. Not to mention Burrow’s incredible determination from 2018 to 2019 and the complete transformation he had in getting to that championship level. Even today, Burrow is one of the best QBs in the NFL.

Shaq has an answer for that argument, too.

“Joe Burrow got it done a couple of years ago, but she’s way more athletic than he is,” he said.
