On Saturday afternoon against Texas A&M, LSU held a special halftime ceremony to retire the jersey of Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf (formerly Chris Jackson).

A number of former Tigers and Abdul-Rauf’s old coach, Dale Brown, came back to support him, and some messages of support were sent from those who couldn’t attend the ceremony.

As you can see below, LSU and NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal sent his love to his former LSU teammate:

“You are undoubtedly the greatest player ever to play at LSU,” O’Neal says. “I appreciate you showing me how to be great.”

Abdul-Rauf was the SEC Player of the Year in 1989 and 1990, and then O’Neal won the award in 1991 and 1992.
