Texas Tech transfer Breiden Fehoko has been an intriguing offseason storyline, as many SEC teams jockeyed to land his commitment following his decision to leave the Big 12. The defensive tackle who was once ranked No. 50 overall by 247 Sports Composite officially committed to LSU on Monday over offers from Auburn, Georgia, and Ole Miss.

Along the way, Fehoko made it clear that an elite defensive line coach would be the deciding factor. In an interview with Billy Embody of Scout, Fehoko echoed those comments, saying that LSU defensive line coach Pete Jenkins won him over during the recruiting process. Of course, having a head coach who is renowned for his defensive line coaching seems to have played a factor, as well.

“Having a defensive line coach who is a legend and a head coach who is a defensive line coach by trade,” said Fehoko, “that was the X-Factor.”

The 6-foot-3, 287-pound DT also gave some love to his new conference, saying that he’s ready for the competition.

“Coming into this process I wanted one thing and one thing solely and that was development,” Fehoko told Scout. “I always thought my style of play was matched for the SEC and I wanted to be a part of that.”

Teaming up with Orgeron and Jenkins should prepare the talented Hawaiian to do just that. While he’ll be forced to sit out the upcoming season due to the NCAA’s transfer rules, Fehoko will have plenty of time to train and develop with two of the nation’s best defensive line coaches before suiting up for the Tigers in 2018.
