Ty Floyd willed it into existence and Cade Beloso finished the job: LSU baseball is one win away from its first CWS national title since 2009 after beating Florida in Game 1 of the championship series Saturday night, 4-3 in extras.

Floyd threw 17 strikeouts – which ties an NCAA record – prior to the 9th inning. He had thrown 122 pitches by that point and was taken out before the 9th, but threw one of the best games you’ll find in college baseball this season.

His final line? 8 innings pitched, 5 hits, 3 earned runs, a walk and 17 strikeouts on 122 pitches. He also had a 73% strike rate.

His incredible effort carried the Tigers into extra innings, aided by a solo shot by Tommy White in the top of the 8th inning:

That was the 2nd most important solo home run of the final few innings, though. The Tigers, despite an excellent performance from its pitching staff, couldn’t put the Gators away due to their absurd inability to plate runners on base. In total, LSU’s offense stranded 17 runners. Seventeen.

Good thing Cade Beloso and the Tigers only needed 1 in the top of the 11th. This ball should be landing in Kansas City sometime soon:

Riley Cooper was able to record 3 outs in order to finalize LSU’s 1-0 series lead. The Tigers need just 1 more to win the national championship.

The quest to do just that starts tomorrow, Sunday June 25 at 3 p.m. on ESPN.
