Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen led off the SEC teleconference on Monday, and he provided Bulldog fans with some updates on the offseason.

On new DC Todd Grantham:
“We were fortunate to get someone of his caliber. Players have responded well to him.”

On kicking game:
“There’s going to be a great opportunity for guys to get on the field and play. It’s not a position where we are comfortable right now. It will be a wide-open race.”

Mullen also said he is in favor of letting freshmen play up to four games and keep their redshirt in place. A rule change allowing this could be voted on in the near future.

Mullen was asked about Nick Fitzgerald and what he’s doing this summer to improve.

Mullen: Drill route, working with his WRs. “If he doesn’t work on his skill until August, we are going to have all kinds of problems. All the things of working on his drills, his footwork… Off the field, how fast you can process information.
