Former Mississippi State defensive lineman Fabien Lovett has a new college football home at Florida State. Lovett announced that he would transfer to FSU following his time at MSU.

Lovett’s decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal was made when Mike Leach fired off a since-deleted tweet showed a meme of a woman knitting her husband a noose with the caption, “After 2 weeks of quarantine with her husband, Gertrude decided to knit him a scarf..” Leach apologized for the tweet, but that was too little too late for Lovett. Once the tweet was made public, Lovett, with his father’s blessing, decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal.

The new Seminoles defensive lineman joined 247Sports’ podcast to explain his decision.

“Me and my dad didn’t feel right about what was tweeted out,” Lovett told Noles247 on a podcast. “We just didn’t feel comfortable playing under somebody that would do that.”

He was then asked if he spoke to Leach and if anyone tried to get him to stay at Mississippi State.

“The only person that I talked to was our defensive line coach,” Lovett said. “Nobody else contacted me. He was the only person to contact me from Mississippi State.”

Obviously, Lovett’s transfer to FSU is a big addition for new head coach Mike Norvell and a tough loss for Leach and Mississippi State’s defense.
