Joe Moorhead is looking at Mississippi State’s Egg Bowl matchup vs. Ole Miss in one way — win and the Bulldogs will be bowl eligible.

However, it could have more of an impact on the Bulldogs’ future than that.

During his Monday press conference, Moorhead was asked if he has had any conversations with the school’s administration about how the Egg Bowl outcome could impact his future as the head coach of the team. But he opted to keep the focus on the game itself.

“I think the outcome of this game means we win the Egg Bowl and go on to the postseason,” Moorhead told the media.

For Mississippi State’s players and campus, Moorhead knows how important the Egg Bowl rivalry is every year.

“You don’t want to downplay the emotional aspect of it, but after the first quarter, all the Knute Rockne stuff goes away and it comes down to execution,” Moorhead said. “”I don’t believe you can quell the emotion, but we want our play between the whistles and between the lines. This is a game our administration wants to be played between the whistles. …

“I understand the magnitude of it, President [Mark] Keenum clearly expressed that when I got the job. We’ve got to do everything we can to make sure that trophy stays put.”

The Bulldogs and Rebels are set to kick off on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
