Mike Leach and Mississippi State received some big news Wednesday evening.

Three-star in-state offensive tackle Makylan Pounders (Byhalia, Mississippi) committed to the Bulldogs over offers from Ole Miss and LSU, among others. The 6-foot-6, 277-pound Pounders will not only make the All-SEC name team, but he’s a talented player, too. He’s ranked as the nation’s No. 85 offensive tackle and the state’s No. 14 overall prospect for 2021, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

“I first want to thank God for blessing me with the talent to play the game I love. Without him none of this would be possible,” he wrote on Twitter. “I want to thank Coach Danley and the rest of my coaches for believing in me and pushing me to be the player that I am today. I also want to thank my teammates for riding with me through this entire process. Thanks to the coaches who are evaluating me and evaluating my play. With all that being said I am verbally committed to Mississippi State University.”

Pounders became the Bulldogs 7th commitment for the class of 2021. MSU offered him a scholarship in January by Mike Leach’s new staff, and it paid off. Pounders became MSU’s first offensive line commitment for the recruiting class.
