Mississippi State head coach Jeff Lebby has officially hired his quarterbacks coach.

The Bulldogs hired Matt Holecek for the role on Friday night. Holecek was previously on Oklahoma’s staff as an assistant quarterbacks coach when Lebby was OU’s offensive coordinator over the past two seasons. Holecek also worked for Lebby at Ole Miss before moving to Norman ahead of the 2022 season.

This will be Holecek’s first time as a full-time position coach in college football.

Here’s the official announcement:

Holecek began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Missouri in 2018. He was promoted to offensive analyst at Mizzou, his alma mater, the next season. He was at Ole Miss from 2020-21 and then Oklahoma from 2022-23.

Lebby has already said Mississippi State intends to pursue a quarterback in the transfer portal this offseason, which means Holecek will have plenty on his plate over the next few weeks.

The transfer portal will officially open for underclassmen on Monday, Dec. 4.
