It has been a bit of a rough week for Nick Fitzgerald and Mississippi State.

The junior QB for the Bulldogs suffered a nasty injury and was carted off the field during the first quarter of the Egg Bowl on Thanksgiving Night. Ole Miss would go on to pull off the upset of the Bulldogs in Fitzgerald’s absence with a final score of 31-28.

That alone made for a bad week, but MSU is now dealing with the departure of head coach Dan Mullen. It was officially announced Sunday that Mullen has accepted the head coaching position at Florida and will return to coach the Gators. He previously coached there as the OC from 2005-08.

After the official announcement, Fitzgerald tweeted a thank you to Mullen. He thanked Mullen for building the program into what it is but said the program is bigger than just one person. While that is true, Mullen’s departure leaves a big void with the Bulldogs.
