HOOVER, Ala. — Mississippi State released a pre-fall depth chart through its media guide Monday.

The resulting two- and three-deep created more questions than it answered.

Backup left guard Kent Flowers since has transferred.

The team’s backup roles at quarterback (Damian Williams, Nick Fitzgerald, Elijah Staley) and running back (Dontavian Lee, Aeris Williams and Brandon Holloway) remain there for the taking this fall.

This depth chart also lists Kendrick Market as a starting safety, but he is recovering from a torn Achilles and is unlikely to play, at least early in the season. The Clarion-Ledger reported that MSU spokesperson Bill Martin compiled the depth chart with no input from the coaching staff, which may explain some of the curiosities.

The team’s specialists remain somewhat of a mystery entering fall camp. Evan Sobiesk left the program to pursue a career in dentistry, and Westin Graves and Devon Bell are vying to replace him. A number of different players could get a look at returning kicks and punts.
